Possibly the most terrible writing I've encountered in the professional realm. A simple example required several rounds of revisions with loads of guidance that produced zero results. Huge time sink. Avoid this.

This was the most bizarre application process I've ever gone through, and honestly, it felt like a whole lot of time wasted just to find out they weren’t gonna proceed with my application. With a solid ten years of writing under my belt and majoring in writing and literature, I’d like to think my skills are decent. It was a unique experience, what with all the quizzes and stuff, but it struck me as strange how fast they dismissed my application after only about half a day.

When it comes to hiring, Compose.ly is pretty messy. They claim a 1% acceptance rate for writers, which might be true. But that doesn’t mean it’s the top 1%—it’s just whatever the editing crew decides to let through.

They have a tough entry process, but then they jump straight into trial articles that are vague and often contradictory. The style guides don’t match up with what the clients provide, leaving writers to figure out what’s really wanted. The outcomes are, as you might guess, all over the place.

At least the editing team acknowledged that the documents have mistakes. Sadly, this means the writing team is made up of those who just happened to get lucky with editors who were in a generous mood, rather than those who actually deliver great work. From what I’ve seen in reviews, it looks like Compose.ly’s methods used to be better, but they’ve shifted in the last little while.

What I love about Compose.ly is how they nail it right from the get-go. We can count on their crew to whip up engaging and powerful content on time, every time.

The account managers are super communicative and really care about their clients. We always feel like we’re their top priority. Big shout out to Douglas (Epic Beard) Haugen and Alyssa (Rocks it like a Hurricane) Chomiczewski. You two are awesome!
